Similar to Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), a Hive Share client purchases a share of a honeybee hives yield at the beginning of the season. Since honey yields can be unpredictable, this helps to provide a stable income to beekeepers while also supporting the honeybees.
Interested in honeybees? Are you wondering what you can do to support honeybees? Purchase your own share of a honeybee hive through Toronto Bee Rescue. 100% of your money goes to supporting your honeybee hive and the beekeeper managing it.
Every purchase of a Hive Share comes with a beekeeping experience for you and your friends/family. While visiting our farm, you will get hands-on experience working with honeybees. Paired with a professional beekeeper you will learn about honeybees, apiary management, and get close up to the hive. Beekeeping suits and gloves will be provided to all participants.
Each Hive Share provides you with a portion of the honey from your sponsored hive, depending on the package you order. Our honey is 100% raw and unpasteurized meaning that all of the natural enzymes and local pollens are still present in our honey.
A beehive can produce anywhere from 30 to 100 lbs of honey each year.
Honey will be harvested seasonally and supplied in bulk. We offer additional services such as custom bottling into jars of various sizes. We can also work with you to design custom labels that showcase your brand or family name, making it a unique gift to share with friends, family, and clients.
When you purchase a Hive Share, we set up a brand new hive, which requires new boxes, frames, and equipment. After the hive is established in the first year, the cost goes down to what is required to maintain the health of the hive.
Beekeeping is expensive and labour intensive, however it is essential to maintain adequate pollination to keep our flowers blooming and local food on our tables. Did you know that 1 in 3 bites of food that you eat everyday is a result of pollination by animals, mainly honeybees? By purchasing a Hive Share, you directly contribute to the health of our environment.
